Carttronics’ New Management Team Features Decades of Industry Experience

Group will lead company into new product/service offerings

CHICAGO May 7, 2000: Carttronics L.L.C., a leader in shopping cart loss prevention and management systems, announced its new management team at the Food Marketing Institute’s Annual Supermarket Convention here. Led by CEO John French, the new team includes COO Arthur W. Salyer and Board Member and Senior Advisor Terry Peets. The three executives have extensive experience in retail, finance and the management of growing companies.

"Carttronics has assembled a highly qualified management team to lead the company, and more importantly, to deliver real value to retailers by helping them stem the loss of shopping carts from their store operations," said French.

French said the Carttronics management team is charged with solving the supermarket industry’s $800 million per year shopping cart loss problem by marketing a system that helps retailers control and maintain cart inventory. The group is also developing the concept of "total cart management", a turnkey management system for company-owned cart fleets.

John R. French, Chief Executive Officer

John French serves as President/CEO of Carttronics, the manufacturer of CAPS (Cart Anti-theft Protection System), a proprietary electronic system to stop the removal of shopping carts from retail sites. As the primary inventor of CAPS, Mr. French organized the Company in April 1997 to bring the product to the market.

Prior to the founding of Carttronics, he was a founding principal of Wall Street Associates, a La Jolla, California based investment advisor offering specialized, small-cap growth-equity portfolio management services to the institutional market. From 1985 through 1994, his responsibilities at Wall Street Associates included strategic planning, investment product development, marketing and client service.

Arthur W. Salyer, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Salyer comes to Carttronics with a proven record of leadership developing and implementing world class operations, supply chain and sourcing strategies across multiple industries that reduce cost, improve service, and enhance new product implementation. Most recently, he was Vice President, Supply Chain Management at Creative Computers, as $800 million retailer of computers, servers, consumer electronics, accessories, and software. At Creative Computers, Mr. Salyer had complete supply chain responsibility for the entire corporation: product sourcing, virtual and in-house warehousing/distribution. He also spent 10 years at Avery Dennison a $3.3 billion manufacturer of consumer office/ computer supplies, pressure sensitive materials, where his last position was Group Director, Global Sourcing and Technology. Mr. Salyer also worked at Frito-Lay Corporation as Chief Operations and Engineering Manager.

Terry R. Peets, Board Member and Senior Advisor

Terry R. Peets was recently appointed as the non-management Chairman of the Board of Bruno’s Grocery Co. Previously, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer at PIA Merchandising Company, Inc., a leading supplier of regularly scheduled, routed merchandising services throughout the United States. PIA provides in-store merchandising and sales services primarily on behalf of branded manufacturers, at more that 17,000 grocery stores, 6,000 mass merchandiser stores and 8,800 drug stores throughout the United States. The Spar Group recently acquired the company. Mr. Peets’ earlier assignments include service as Executive Vice President at the Vons Companies, Inc., and Executive Vice President at Ralphs Grocery Company.
