Unique Solution for Shopping Cart Fleet Management To Be Launched by Carttronics

CHICAGO May 7, 2000: Having delivered a cost-effective solution to shopping cart losses with its CAPS technology, Carttronics, L.L.C. announced at the Food Marketing Institute’s Annual Supermarket Convention that it will expand its service offering to include Total Cart Management, a turnkey management of company-owned cart fleets. The new service will enable retailers to concentrate on their core competencies of managing the consumer interface by transferring the responsibility of cart purchasing, maintenance and repair to Carttronics.

Total Cart Management will help the retailer’s bottom line by delivering the operational benefits of the elimination of shopping cart purchasing and repairs and the reduction of store labor devoted to cart retrieval, and the financial benefits of improved customer satisfaction and increased sales. The system will be supported financially by a combination of retailer and vendor funds, with the net amount giving the retailer a significant dollar savings.

"Total Cart Management will revolutionize the way retailers think about the shopping cart, converting the exasperation they currently have in trying to deal with the $800 million problem into a hands-off profit center. After more than a generation of throwing money at the challenge of shopping cart control, retailers will have the opportunity actually see some of that money returned to them," explained John French, CEO of Carttronics.

French expects to trial the Total Cart Management systems at a leading retailer this summer, and further anticipates full chain rollouts of the system by 2001.

Based in San Diego, Carttronics, L.L.C. is the manufacturer of CAPS® (Cart Anti-theft Protection System), a proprietary electronic system to stop the removal of shopping carts from retail sites. Carttronics was founded in April 1997 to bring the product to the market, and began commercial sales in July 1998. Since the commencement of sales, Carttronics has secured as customers many of the premier retail chains in North America, including Safeway, Kroger and Albertson’s, and has initiated international sales in Canada, the U.K. and The Netherlands.
